Where the number comes from

Our typical figure is NMSU's 2012 mean for 'Chocolate 7-pot' ('almost 1.17 million SHU'). Many growers treat Douglah as a Chocolate 7 Pot, but NMSU did not use the Douglah name, so the mapping is an assumption. The 923,889-1,853,986 range comes from vendor and blog sources whose labs are not named. NMSU's Chile Pepper Institute separately lists 'Chocolate 7 pot' at 1.8 million SHU among the hottest it has tested, which is consistent with that peak.
