Chartered Accountancy in India is run by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). Each level has several papers that are passed in groups, often over more than one attempt.

Why aspirants say CA is the toughest
Supporters of this side say CA is not one exam but a marathon of many. Accounting, audit, tax and law keep changing, so students study while working long hours in articleship. Final results day is famous for nerves and celebrations in equal measure. CA walon ka kehna hai: yahan pass hona hi sabse bada rank hai.
The CA prep reality
The CA reality is study at night after a full day of articleship, with audits, tax filings and deadlines during the day. Students often attempt groups separately to manage the load. The gap between levels can stretch over years, so study groups and mentors matter a lot. When the final result comes, CA students say the celebration is worth every late night.
Why it could be the toughest
- Multiple levels and many papers over several years.
- Pass rates at the higher levels are famously low.
- Study plus full-time articleship at the same time.
Why others disagree
- JEE fans say the questions are less tricky, just long.
- UPSC fans say the competition pool is smaller.
- Some argue the difficulty is in the system, not the subject.
