4-day week: teen din ka weekend, sapna ya future? (Live tap war)

A 4-day week means working four days and taking three off, either with the same total hours squeezed into longer days or, in trial versions abroad, with fewer hours for the same pay. Several countries and companies have tested it, and it is a regular wish-list item for Indian office workers.

What 4-day week looks like in real life

In real life, a 4-day week usually means either four ten-hour days or a carefully planned cut in hours with fewer meetings and tighter focus. It suits roles that can plan work ahead, like many tech, creative and back-office jobs. Supporters say the long weekend makes people more loyal and less likely to burn out. Critics say it only works where customers can also wait a day.

The case for it

• A real three-day break every week.

• Trials abroad have reported better focus and well-being.

The case against

• Customer-facing jobs cannot easily stop for a day.
• Compressed long days can be more tiring.
• Critics say India needs more work, not less.
